Back Home!!!

Aaaah . . . . back home to our wonderful Colorado with my awesome hubby!  Being a "mountain girl" at heart, I was eagerly watching out of the airplane's window, waiting for a first glimpse of my beloved Rocky Mountains.  Southwest Airlines tag line is "Wanna Getaway?" - at this point, NO, just get me home!!!!
First of all, I want to give all of our wonderful blog reader friends a BIG THANK YOU for your care, prayers, and warm wishes following the passing of my mom.  A heartbreaking event is always made more tolerable by the "hugs" from friends - thank you - it was wonderful, very meaningful, and appreciated!

We arrived home from Iowa yesterday and basically collapsed and slept wonderfully (first good sleep in a few weeks!!!).  So nice to be in our own comfy, warm bed.  Jumped out of bed this morning ready for a "shake out the legs" run, get back into a training groove, and start regaining some of the red blood cells (natural EPO) I lost being down at sea level for almost two weeks!  Of course, we laced up and headed out the door to our little neighborhood gem, UVP.  Below, we are just heading into the park.  Notice - no snow on the ground (yet).
As the run progressed, so did the snow.  It didn't matter. It wasn't cold, I was home, I was running on real trails and I felt like I was in heaven.  Bring it on!
It's all good!
Lots of varied terrain in UVP.

Steve stretching his legs on a flat section. The snow is picking up!
Tiptoeing carefully down the wet rocks.
Beautiful!
Did a few loop-de-loops through the park and then headed for home.
We had to run past our favorite Starbucks on the way back.

After it was all said and done, we ended up with 8.6 miles - decent for a 'shake out the legs' run, and fairly wet.  It felt great to be out on the trails again.  Hopefully I will be able to "catch up" on training quickly as Greenland 25k is in six weeks.  If not, it will be a good spring-board of training for a couple of potential events coming up soon after.  The Sageburner 25k is the end of May and the Turkey Tracks Trail Half Marathon is June 12.  We'll see what happens!  Glad to be home and would like to wish a smile and Happy Trails to everyone this week!

First off, welcome home and I loved your comment about sleeping in your own bed, there's nothing else like it! Secondly, you have the greatest husband in Colorado(not Cal., of course)because yours was so concerned and supportive...his love and concern it is so evident through his writing. You are truly blessed. Finally, I am so sorry for your loss but I'm sure you're slowly moving on and I hope your family is comforted during this time. You didn't waste any time getting out there to run, wow, you do have some races to prepare for. Hugs to you K and thanks for your supportive words!

Lovely pictures! I love how you captured the snow as it increased.

It's good to see you back. Your last couple of weeks must have been very hard.

I always love coming home to my "stuff" and the comforts of my home; I'm glad you're home and got in an awesome run in. Once again you took me on a journey through one of your amazing runs and inspire me to get in some trail running as soon as I can get Boston checked off. I'm even going to look into one of those races you have this summer, what a great adventure. Take care, Kathleen...big hugs to you!

Welcome back. Awesome pictures... when I lived in Oregon I saw terrain like that all the time, of course I wasn't a runner then! Cheers!

Thought about you yesterday when I was running on bits of trail in the park to add some fun to my long run. I had to be more on the lookout for roots and rocks than usual and had to work on balance more, too. Glad you're home!

Hi - I was checking out your blog after reading your comment you sent me. Great Blog! I added you to my blogroll. I see you guys are running the Greenland 25K. My hubby and I are running the 50K. Should be interesting : ) My first ultra. We've done a few marathons.. but nothing ever this far! Maybe we'll see you on the trails sometime. We live right next to the Garden in Pleasant Valley -- access to the Garden trails is literally right out our front door.
