Change of Pace

We hit the road today - on bikes, don't get your hopes up you roadie runners out there - to get in some miles while the Leadville 100 mountain bike race was taking place up in the thin air above 10,000 feet.  Congratulations to Levi Leipheimer, winning in a new course record time, and Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski finishing second and also dipping under the old CR.  The course record was not soft, either, as it was previously held by Lance Armstrong.  Imagine riding 100 miles, mostly above 10,000 feet elevation, in 6:16:38 ???  Next Saturday, they'll line up in Leadville again, only this time for the 100 mile running race.

It was another beautiful day and absolutely perfect for a ride.  We started the day with cloudless azure skies and pleasant temps in the mid 70's.  We just stayed on the quiet roads around home and were hoping to get in 20 miles or so of relatively easy spinning.
Kathleen riding, with Blodgett Peak on the right
All done and ready for some grub....

We had a great ride - 24 miles with some good climbs.  After watching the live updates for the finish at Leadville and seeing the top 5 come in, we got cleaned up and headed out for some fuel replenishment.  We dropped in to Coquette Creperie in Manitou Springs, a great restaurant that serves a wide variety of gluten-free fare.  We had our server take a photo, however, it was a little dark and was vetoed by one half of HT for hair malfunction issues.... :-)  I had the South of the Border, which is a large crepe stuffed with eggs, chorizo, pico de gallo, jack cheese, and is served with home fries.  Kathleen had the Monte Cristo, which also starts with a large crepe stuffed with Black Forest ham, eggs, swiss cheese, and strawberry preserves, topped with powdered sugar and served with fruit.  A GREAT way to refuel!   All in all, a very nice day - Happy Trails (and road biking too!!!)

Hi guys...
I was hearing some updates on the Leadville race today too...wow! I'm thinking I'm going to take up biking since I have to give up running and according to K, also give up the 4 billion gallons of ice cream/day. I loved seeing K on her bike, she's looking super speedy and makes me drool with envy. Oh how I wish I had a bike to ride...and could actually ride. One day perhaps. And duh, no pictures allowed with hair malfunctions!! :) Have a great week in the mountains...thanks for the pep talk, K...have some news (or lack thereof) on my heel which isn't good...but maybe by the time you return I will have better news. And I promise no more ice cream ;). Have fun!!!!

It's nice to do something different! Today I started marathong training, so to get a running break all I did was ride mt roadie last week. It sure was fun!

It was such an amazingly beautiful day here yesterday... I hit the Garden trails, but was thinking a nice ride would have been superb as well. Awaking this morning, as you are to a morning of overcast skies, but it's kind of nice, right?!? Nice cool morning to get a sweet run in, no doubt..
Have a great time in Aspen, and I've got a feeling you are going to kick a lil' booty Kathleen... :) Talked to J about Buena Vista, and he said as I did it may be a little too much for us to plan right now, plus he is super busy... w/ school - already working weekends getting it organized, etc., but maybe in the Spring before the race day.. but, let's plan something more local in the nearer future.
But.. idea... maybe we could plan a girl's weekend.. w/ Jill (??) :)) and go to Buena Vista.. check out the trail, and do the Princeton Hot Springs... just a thought...

How cool would it be to be able to say I broke a course record today and it was set by Lance Armstrong. I would take out an ad in my local paper so everyone knew!
That restaurant sounds awesome! Love that you two each have veto power for pics! I have certainly elected not to include many. Yesterday thought I looked rather fat in one of my biking ones and that one went right in the garbage!
Saw my first snake today! I'm going to blog about it later if you are dying to know more!
I am LOVING the biking! No aspirations to do anything with it other than just enjoy it! If I come to CO again maybe I will have to rent a bike while I am there! Those hills will really kill me then.

What is this "biking" you speak of?

Your food descriptions are making me hungry...

Sounds like a great ride and post-ride fare!

I had no idea that Levi was even racing! Wow, that would be a cool race to go watch (start and finish only of course).

Your pics are gorgeous as ever; isn't it wonderful to be able to get a great bike ride in on such a pretty day!!

I've actually eaten at that little restaurant. Manitou Springs is such a cute little town. My husband and I got married outside of Cascade at a little lodge in 2009 and I took my mom through Manitou Springs while she was here from Missouri. She loved it!

Hair malfunction issues! : )

The two of you are standing in front of some pretty flowers! Yours maybe?

I can't imagine riding in the Leadville 100 and esp. not running it! What an accomplishment!

Thanks for the helpful info that you left on my blog!

That Blueberry Gu Brew with more sodium sounds good for someone looking for more, like me.

I saw Nutella at the store yesterday and right beside it was another brand of hazelnut/cocoa spread. I thought of you and looked at the ingredients. It didn't contain palm oil and it was cheaper, too. Might be worth a try.

Found the name of the chocolate hazelnut spread: Pralinutta. But you might have other copy-cats at your grocery store. (I wasn't at a specialty grocery store.)
