Running at Monument Fire Center

Catching some early rays

Saturday morning we headed up to Monument to catch some good trails at the USFS Monument Work Center.  After the mercury tickling the low 70's on Friday (as in a work day...), we knew somewhat early that we were not going to hit the initial forecast of 60's for the day.  So we tried to get up there while the sun was out to log some miles on fantastic trails.  Took a bunch of pics, so we'll let them do most of the talking:

Monument Rock foreground, Mount Herman behind

Monument Rock from across the pond
Trail through one of the Memorial Groves

Sweet, rocky trails...

...and a couple smooth ones, too!!!

Looking down from a ridge

Posing before Kathleen called it a day

Thirsty???

Trail 715 - getting ready to drop in

Nice view of the memorial area

Sorry - pool is closed today... Notice a change in the weather????

Monument Rock - nice pine nestled in there at the base

Had to take this on the way out just for Jennifer... :-)

If you couldn't tell from the pics, it was a good day!   Got a little cold toward the end when the clouds rolled in and the wind kicked up, but we'll take it.  I ended up with a total of 17 miles and some tired feet, while Kathleen cut it a bit short and took a Starbucks run while I was out finishing up!!! Will post later about Sunday's outing - hope you enjoyed the photo tour!!!

HappyTrails - Somehow the name "Monument Fire Center" does not bring to mind scenic vistas, but that looks pretty cool! You sure have a ton of trails down there.

Dirty Woman Creek? Can you imagine if someone tried to name a creek like that nowadays? lol.

Mtnrunner2 - That is where the Pike HotShots firefighters are based and their work center is full of awesome trails.

If anyone wants a little history lesson on Dirty Woman Creek and Ranch, here is a little piece that our running club had posted:

Ha ha! I think your funny! Yes I need to visit Dirty Woman Creek! I think my shoes are still dropping bits of dirt even after a good hosing down! What lovely pictures and such a fine day! It's going to be over 70 here today, it doesn't take long for the warm temps to get here! Cheers!

a run and Starbucks - wish I had been there to run, soak up the views and then go for coffee.

I'm not sure why I thought of the movie "127 Hours" when I saw the "Thirsty?" picture (just watched part of the movie...amazing!). I guess if you're desperate you'll do it, huh? Thankfully, you weren't :).

Another beautiful run! Enjoy these next few gorgeous, sunshiney days!!!

Yes, I tried the velvet whoopie pie and yes it was great. I won't tell you how many of those petite desserts I tried.
It is warming up here and beginning to get spring like! Yeah!
